Enhancement of Mangroves at Discovery Bay

The mangroves at Discovery Bay have faced impacts from construction developments in the 1990s. Presently, the mangroves are characterized by being short and stunted, with only one exit on the sea revetment.

The project's primary goal is to enhance biodiversity through a community-driven approach towards sustainable development. This involves activities such as planting and monitoring the mangroves, as well as promoting eco-tourism through initiatives like a cycling path and an extended platform.

Currently, the project is in its initial phase where a study of restoration projects from other countries is being conducted, along with gathering essential site data. The subsequent stages in the next 2-3 years will focus on increasing soil depth, restoring a nearby river, creating more exits on the sea revetment, and active community engagement.
