Repurposing Traditional Abandoned Houses in Japan

Collaborated with Okayama Prefectural University, this project aims to revitalize Tomo no Ura, Japan, by repurposing traditional abandoned houses into sustainable community spaces. The strategy involves:

(1) Organizing a community meeting to gather local input on cultural preservation and sustainable development.

(2) Holding an international workshop bringing together Japanese and HK students, professors, and architects.

(3) Conducting a site visit for a thorough assessment of abandoned houses.

(4) Designing functional community spaces like cafes and art studios to attract residents and tourists.

By engaging the community and creating innovative spaces, this project sets out to be a model for sustainable development.
