The project aims to mitigate food waste in Singapore, where only 18% of the 813,000 tonnes of food waste was recycled in 2022. With the coffee market booming and artisanal coffee gaining popularity, this initiative seeks to educate and demonstrate the economic and environmental benefits of reusing coffee grounds within the Circular Economy. Utilizing 3D printing technology, the project team created tools that enable the upcycling of coffee capsules and grounds. Awareness and instructional content were disseminated through social media, complemented by hands-on workshops to showcase practical reuse methods. Collaborating with local coffee shops, campus landscapers and organizations like The Circle of Human Sustainability and Ferticlay, the project expands its reach and effectiveness. This project champions a sustainable approach to the growing coffee culture, encouraging waste reduction and circular economy practices.
